Srinagar is the capital city of Jammu and Kashmir, which stands tall amidst the beautiful landscapes. Srinagar offers a different sighting experience to tourists. Enriched with canals, lakes, houseboats, Mughal Gardens and historical monuments, Srinagar invites travellers from all corners of the world to experience its unique charm and cultural richness.

A storehouse of cultures

Unlike other big Indian cities, as you walk through Srinagar’s intriguing alleyways and fascinating buildings, you will be immersed in a world of history and tradition. The old city streets near the tranquil Jhelum River are especially charming, offering a glimpse into the city’s historic past.

The summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar is famous for its beautiful lakes and the peaceful sailing of Shikara boats. A visit to this city is incomplete without enjoying a ride across the Dal Lake in a Shikara, a traditional wooden boat. Srinagar has more than enough to spend a whole day seeing Nishat Garden, Nasim Bagh, Hazratbal Masjid, Jamia Masjid, Shah Hamdan’s shrine and the impressive Pari Mahal.

Mughal Gardens: A Testimony of Timeless Beauty

No trip here would be complete without a visit to the beautiful Mughal Gardens in Srinagar. Abundant with beautiful gardens, these gardens bring a special feeling to the mind. Apart from beautiful gardens, these gardens also feature beautifully constructed layouts and waterfall structures.

Known as the ‘Garden of Love’, Shalimar Bagh was a gift from Emperor Jahangir to his beloved wife Noor Jahan. Built-in 1616, this charming garden has four terraces and a central water channel. The terraces, once reserved for the emperor and court ladies, are still a magnificent sight. A special attraction is the spectacular sound-and-light show Son Et Lumiere, held every evening from May to October.

Situated on the banks of the world-famous Dal Lake, Nishat Bagh presents a dramatic sight with 12 terraces symbolizing the 12 zodiac signs. Designed by NoorJahan’s brother Asaf Khan in 1633, this grand garden follows the same model as Shalimar Bagh.

Chasma Shahi, the smallest of Srinagar’s Mughal Gardens, is a tranquil oasis perched on a hillside above the Nehru Memorial Park. Established in 1632, the garden has three terraces, a reservoir, waterfalls and fountains. The freshwater spring here is believed to have medicinal properties, so tourists who come here often drink the water and take it away in bottles.

Pari Mahal: Abode of fairies

Pari Mahal is a magnificent historical monument situated on the Sabarwan mountain range overlooking Dal Lake. Originally built as an astronomical observatory, it later served as a Buddhist monastery. It was later converted into a pleasure palace by Prince Dara Shikoh, the eldest son of Emperor Shah Jahan. Pari Mahal is a must-visit attraction for history and nature lovers alike, combined with the palace’s unique architecture and breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. From this viewpoint, you can have a very beautiful view of Dal Lake and Srinagar City
